Regional water situation

Central Finland, Päijät-Häme and Kymenlaakso 15.10.

The water levels of lakes in the northern part of the Kymijoki river basin are still higher than average, due to the heavy rainfall in September. In other parts of the river basin, lake water levels are mainly at their normal levels for the time of year. According to weather forecasts, the second half of October will be fairly low in precipitation, and the water levels will mostly continue declining.

The water level in Lake Päijänne is close to the median level of the season. The flow regulation of Lake Päijänne will be reduced so that the water level would not fall below the target level, as the forecast dry weather continues. After the reduction, the flow regulation is 250 m3/s. The flow rate of River Kymijoki in Kuusankoski is still slightly higher than average and, according to the forecast, will remain below 300 m3/s.

Water levels in the large lakes in the northern part of the river basin, Lake Keitele, Lake Konnevesi and Lake Pielavesi-Nilakka, are 5–20 cm above the median level of the time period. The water levels are rising slightly, which will continue at the end of October, with the exception of Konnevesi.

On the Mäntyharju route, the water level of Lake Puula is at the average seasonal level, and no major changes are expected during October. Kissakoski’s flow regulation is low considering the season.
