Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation that builds sustainable future and well-being from renewable natural resources.
The institute’s research creates value and solutions for national and international challenges, including climate-wise carbon cycling, adaptable and resilient bioeconomy, profitable and responsible primary production as well as circular bioeconomy.
The Natural Resources Institute’s work relating to water resources includes monitoring and research that focus on the status of fish stocks and fisheries in rivers and lakes as well as in sea areas. The institute also participates in planning and developing methodology for river basin management and implementing the plans. Other key areas of research include the restoration of fisheries, especially in developed river basins, and research in support of new water-based industries.
The institute’s research is also bolstered by many official tasks, such as monitoring natural resources and conservation of genetic resources. Natural Resources Institute Finland produces the official statistics of Finland on natural resources.
