Information produced by Finnish Meteorological Institute
Finnish Meteorological Institute

The Finnish Meteorological Institute produces high-quality observation and scientific data concerning the atmosphere and oceans, based on which it provides services for the needs of different fields.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute engages in and promotes observation and research activities focusing on the atmosphere and the physical status of the oceans. Its expert services promote public security, improve societal and environmental wellbeing, and help society prepare for phenomena associated with the atmosphere and oceans.
Services relating to weather and the sea are provided to meet the needs of traffic, business life and citizens, and the Institute also issues warnings of hazardous changes in the weather and the physical status of the sea.
The Weather and Safety Centre, which is part of the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s organisation, operates 24/7. It produces up-to-date information and forecasts relating to weather, sea state and climate and monitors natural disasters occurring in Finland and abroad.
The services of the Weather and Safety Centre bolster Finnish society as a whole. Its round-the-clock preparedness is reinforced when necessary, for example in exceptional situations caused by extreme climatic phenomena or other disturbances.
