Blue-green algae observations have increased in coastal and open sea areas, but the situation in inland waters is typical of the season. Blue-green algae have been observed especially on the coasts of Southwest Finland, Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso. Abundant blue-green algae occur in the open sea area throughout the Gulf of Finland.

The number of observations of the national blue-green algae monitoring in inland waters has not changed much since last week, and the blue-green algae situation is currently typical of the season. In addition to Southern Finland, blue-green algae also occur in different parts of Central Finland. Abundant blue-green algae have been detected at ten national blue-green algae monitoring sites, and some blue-green algae have been detected at 27 monitoring sites. These observations span from Southern Finland to southern Lapland. Very abundant algae have not been observed at any national monitoring site this week.

The number of blue-green algae observations in the coastal area has increased since last week. Blue-green algae have been observed at 29 national blue-green algae monitoring sites. Abundant blue-green algae were observed in ten of these sites and some blue-green algae in 19 of them. Blue-green algae were observed mainly on the coasts of Southwest Finland, Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso, but observations were also made on the coasts of Satakunta, Ostrobothnia and North Ostrobothnia.

The number of blue-green algae has also increased in open sea areas compared to last week. The number of blue-green algae has increased especially in the Archipelago Sea and the southern parts of the Bothnian Sea. There are still plenty of occurrences throughout the Gulf of Finland.

In addition to official monitoring, information on the blue-green algae situation is also gathered from the public. A total of approximately 110 observations made by citizens were obtained through the Lake-seawiki and Vesi.fi, and blue-green algae were observed in around 70 cases.
