How can I save water?

While water is a renewable natural resource, it is not inexhaustible. Saving water is good for both the environment and your purse, and easily done when you take a look at your habits.

The main thing is to ensure that you do not waste water by accident. A leaking tap or toilet may trickle dozens of litres of water a day directly into the sewer.

When selecting toilets and other sanitaryware, you should choose a water-saving model. Changing the shower head alone will bring you savings, even more so if you turn the water off while you are soaping yourself. You can often skip your daily shower without compromising on personal hygiene, and a bath tub is a major consumer of water.

When choosing washing machines and dishwashers, look out for water-saving models. Using the machine right is at least equally important: select a suitable programme and only turn the machine on when it is full. By airing your clothes, you can avoid washing them quite so often.

You should avoid running the water unnecessarily in all situations. If you keep a bottle of water in the fridge, you need not run the tap to have a cold drink. Washing up by hand under running water consumes a lot of water.
